GARRETT

The first turbo was created in 1954 when Caterpillar's D9 crawler was combined with Garrett's T15 turbo. The first turbocharged production car was the aptly called Oldsmobile Jetfire Turbo Rocket in 1962, but the technology's impact was initially felt more sharply in commercial vehicles when Deere chose the Garrett T04 turbo for its farm tractor series in 1967. The rest of the industry soon followed. The 1991 Fiat Croma was able to modify exhaust gas flow in direct response to individual engine requirements thanks to Garrett's breakthrough variable nozzle turbine technology (VNT), which made turbo popular and widespread in the 1990s.
